The central nervous system is protected by blood brain barrier (BBB) which is the most restrictive barrier in the body. It avoids passing of neurotoxin agents, invasive pathogens and most of the therapeutic agents. The impermeability of the BBB is mostly due to tight junction that linked brain endothelial cells. Structural proteins such as occludins, claudins and junctional adhesion molecules are formed the tight junction. To overcome this issue, physical and chemical methods are studying on it. However, these techniques may transiently disrupt the BBB or cause irreversible damage. Consequently, the development of minimally invasive drug delivery strategies is crucial for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, tumours, and neuropsychiatric disorders. This research aims to investigate the capacity of a naturally derived compound, sourced from honey bees, to facilitate the transport of drug delivery system across the BBB. PURE student will gain the experience about the synthesis and characterization of nanoparticle.
