When we record images in the scanning transmission electron microscope (STEM), we are recording the distribution of scattered electron intensity. The intensity contrast can be directly correlated to features in the specimen that are generating the scattering. In this project, we will apply known methods for interpreting image contrast, particularly from atom-resolved images. We will additionally develop structural models that will serve as the input for image simulations.
