This project aims to assess how Turkish political elites changed throughout the Republican period. Since 1923 Turkish politics witnessed major changes, oscillating between various types of authoritarian rule and short bouts of majoritarian democracy. Accordingly, political figures from different ideological, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds rose in the political arena. In this study, I will be working with a research team to code Turkish political elites over the past century. Therefore I am looking for students who are interested in comparative and/or Turkish politics/history. Students will be coding political elites from different periods in accordance with the criteria that will be provided to them.
