Leader Statements and Civil Conflicts

How do the statements of the presidents of the United States impact civil conflicts? This project aims to create a dataset on the United States presidential statements on civil wars all around the world in order to analyze how verbal statements impact the civil conflict processes. In this project, the students are expected to work on identifying conflict cases and actors for each civil conflict incident that took place between 1960-2021. They will extract the statements from American Presidency Project through web scraping and detect conflict actors by using R. Therefore, the students will learn to use R and create a dataset on US leader statements.
