The project's goal is to create a new multifunctional energy storage material that can perform load bearing and energy storage while also reducing weight in weight sensitive applications. The objective of such system design is to decrease the weight. The evaluation of cutting-edge structural energy storage technologies and electrolyte alteration will aid in increasing conductivity without reducing supercapacitor stiffness. The research will concentrate on both the creation of new materials and the simulation of polymer structure and behavior. Conductivity and mechanical characterization tests will be performed to assess the implications of these changes on system performance. The PURE students collaborating in the project will primarily concentrate on the development of novel ionically-conductive prepregs and polymer synthesis. The students will work directly under the supervision of a PhD student and will be required to engage with the other students and researchers in our group throughout the program. The study will be conducted primarily in SU-IMC laboratories, but additional SU facilities will be used as needed.
