Project: From Lab to Field: Developing a Benchtop Raman Spectroscopy for Pesticide Detection in Food-1
Work Package 4: Creation of RS fingerprint library and interference concentration studies for selected pesticides using nanofabricated SERS surfaces
To create the fingerprint library, SERS spectra of 15 selected pesticides will be obtained at 7 concentrations, with the European MRL as the median (Table 3). Stock solutions of each pesticide will be prepared and diluted to achieve different concentrations. 20 µL samples will be measured on fabricated SERS surfaces using RS lab prototypes, with 10 measurements per sample from different points. Raw data will undergo cosmic ray removal, baseline correction, smoothing, and normalization before being used to create the fingerprint library and train the artificial intelligence system.
After single-pesticide measurements, combinations of four pesticides with high spectral overlap will be measured to further train the AI system.
Detection limits in real samples will be determined using spiked pepper and cucumber samples (50 of each type). Ten measurements per sample will provide 500 measurements per sample type and pesticide for AI training. Measurements of pesticide-free samples will also be taken to account for background noise. All measurements will undergo the same data processing steps. Finally, samples known to contain pesticides will be analysed without spiking, and the results will be compared with a validated method.
