Realistic (open) quantum systems cannot be perfectly isolated from their surrounding environment. The inevitable interaction between the system of interest and the environment results in decoherence, destroying precious quantum resources, such as quantum entanglement and coherence. Collision models provide a rather simple and versatile technique to simulate the dynamics of open quantum systems. In this project, the students will learn how to describe the dynamics of open systems using numerical simulations, based on the collision model framework.
