Integrated Sensing And Communication (ISAC) is a technology that simultaneously provides both wireless communication and sensing functions. ISAC effectively improves the spectrum utilization and solves the spectrum conflict between sensing (radar) and communication systems, while also reducing the size and energy consumption of the equipment. ISAC technology is expected to be applied in a wide range of intelligent applications that require high data transmission rate and high-accurate sensing capabilities in the era beyond 5G and 6G.  With the development and application of millimeter-wave (mmWave) and terahertz (THz) technologies, the frequency bands of communication gradually coincide with these of radar, which promotes the realization of ISAC technology.
In this project, the students will work on implementing ISAC techniques in the THz band, considering terrestrial (conventional, on the ground) systems and non-terrestrial (among flying vehicles, such as, drones, UAVs, satellites etc.) applications. The work involves MATLAB or python implementation of ISAC algorithms combining radar or angle of arrival detection with communications, considering interference cancellation as well as machine learning based techniques.
