Complex diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, and cardiovascular diseases as well as serious inflammatory or infectious diseases such as COVID-19, SARS, MERS, and HIV have a significant negative impression not only on the patient himself but also on the whole society. Thus, appropriate diagnosis, treatments as well as preventive methods attributed to these diseases have been of great attention in the field of biomedical research in the past decades.

Nanomedicine, the application of advanced nano- and bio-materials in medical applications, promises new methods and multidisciplinary approaches for more efficient and affordable healthcare. Meanwhile, fundamental research in nanomedicine allows a better understanding of nanomaterials interaction with biological tissues in the human body.
