Electrospinning is a powerful tool to produce ultra thin fibers from a wide range of polymeric materials. Electrospun polymer/inorganic nanostructured composite nanofibers have attracted tremendous interest in variety of applications, including tissue regeneration, filtration, energy storage and food packaging. We are proposing an environmentally friendly and cost effective method to produce antibacterial nanofiber mats with sustained release properties for biomedical applications.

In this project, polymeric nanofiber/natural clay nanocomposites containing an antibacterial agent will be designed and fabricated using electrospinning of water-based systems. Then, the release profiles, mechanical properties and antibacterial activity of the electrospun nanocomposites will be investigated.
